Samsung Galaxy S3 comes fully loaded with Android 4.0 Ince Cream Sandwich, dual-core 1.5GHz processor and an 8-megapixel camera. It has has a large 4.8 inch screen but still convenient to carry and handle. At the end of this May, it was launched and released in Australia.
To be true, right now there is no true competitor against Samsung Galaxy S III. But within a few months it is going to face the toughest competition when Apple launches its next generation smartphone being called iPhone 5. Latest reports suggest that Apple is set to unveil its best smartphone as early as August 7. Though exact release date is still to be announced, there is no reason not to believe Wired report.
There is a whole lot of difference between Apple and Samsung. Both are fighting a multipronged war that is becoming more and more intense with every passing day. Apple depends more on a single smartphone while Samsung has multiple smartphones in its kitty. Though right now Galaxy S3 is selling like the hottest cake in the market, there are several great Samsung phones both high, medium and low end smartphones that too chip in to Samsung coffers. Galaxy Note phablet is another hot selling Samsung phone that has its fans in almost all parts of the world. With 5.3 inch screen and great specs, this phablet attracts whoever gets it in his or her name.
Samsung Galaxy S3 vs Apple iPhone 5: Dimensions
The Galaxy S3 measures in at 71 x 137 x 8.6mm and 133g. Historically the iPhone has been smaller in size than this. The iPhone 4S, for example, is thicker and heavier than the Galaxy S3.
Whether the iPhone 5 is bigger or not largely depends on the screen size. Many rumours have suggested the phone will be thinner than previous generations which also points towards it being lighter too.
Samsung Galaxy S3 vs Apple iPhone 5: Screen
The Galaxy S3 has a 4.8-inch display while every single iPhone has had a comparatively tiny 3.5-inch one.
Screen size has been one of the most talked about aspects to the iPhone 5 with almost every rumour saying it will have a larger screen than before (just as precidcted for the iPhone 4S). The most tipped size is 4in but others have said sizes up to 5in.
One rumour has even suggested the iPhone 5 will have a tactile screen with buttons that can appear from beneath the screen for typing.
Samsung Galaxy S3 vs Apple iPhone 5: Processor
Samsung uses its own Exynos 4 Quad chip for the Galaxy S3 which is unsurprisingly quad-core. It’s clocked at 1.4GHz and is based on the ARM Cortex A9 architecture.
Based on previous chips that Apple has used, the iPhone 5 should have an A6 processor which could well be quad-core. However Apple could opt to use the A5X chip found in the new iPad which is dual-core with quad-core graphics.
Samsung Galaxy S3 vs Apple iPhone 5: Storage
Both the Galaxy S3 and the current iPhone 4S come with three storage options, 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. This scenario could well be the case again with the iPhone 5. However, some rumours claim the next gen iPhone will come in a 128GB model.
Samsung Galaxy S3 vs Apple iPhone 5: Cameras
The Galaxy S3 has a rear facing camera rated at 8Mp with the ability to record video in full HD 1080p quality. There’s not been any mention about the resolution of the iPhone 5′s camera but we have heard it will use a Sony ‘RGBW’ and High Dynamic Range (HDR) Movie’ sensor.
Another rumour said that the camera will have a ‘multi-point camera focusing system’ which will let the user focus on two or more areas of focus via the touchscreen.
Samsung Galaxy S3 vs Apple iPhone 5: Software
Apple’s iPhone runs its own iOS software while Samsung’s Galaxy S3 uses Google’s Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich and a TouchWiz overlay.
We assume that Samsung will update the S3 to the soon to be latest version, 4.1 Jelly Bean. Apple recently unveiled iOS 6 which will launch this autumn. The release date of iOS 6 coincides with the expected iPhone 5 launch so it is almost certain the iPhone 5 will come pre-loaded with iOS 6.
