How to upload video from a Canon 2R45MC Camcorder onto the computer

I have a Canon NTSC 2R45 MC Digital Video Camcorder. I have hours of footage that I want to upload on the computer so I don’t have to watch by plugging it into the TV. How do I get the video I recorded onto the computer?

Either the USB 2.0 (which allow transfer speeds of several dozens of Mb’s per second), or the relatively new IEEE1394 (Firewire) is the prefered options.

By far your best option is to go with Firewire, which the is most efficient, versus USB (and especially the old USB 1.0 standard- only 1.5Mbps, and very low bandwidth). The connection on digital video cameras is always a 4-pin FireWire connector (sometimes called either DV or iLINK depending on the camcorder brand). Desktop PCs, with the exception of Sony computers use 6-pin FireWire connections. Sony uses 4-pin connectors on their desktop PCs as well. On a laptop, the FireWire connection is almost always 4-pin. Make sure you get a FireWire cable to match your needs. For most desktop systems, this means you need a 4-pin to 6-pin cable. For laptops and all Sony computers you need a 4-pin to 4-pin cable.
